The Law Office of Kristine S. Karila was founded by Ms. Karila in 1997.
The office specializes in employment and labor law.
Ms. Karila represents employees/claimants and employers, as well as independent contractors in a wide variety of legal matters.

Ms. Karila has enjoyed a very successful career with excellent results for her clients.   She has represented employees who were discriminated against because of pregnancy, pregnancy related disabilities and/or pregnancy/maternity leave.   Many people do not know that a pregnant employee in California may be able to receive up to seven months of protected leave.   See Ms. Karila's Blog on this website about that topic and many other employment law topics.  

Ms. Karila has also fought for and succeeded in claims against employers for sexual harassment or harassment based on race, religion, pregnancy, disability, medical condition, gender, age over 40, etc.   Kristine Karila has handled thousands of wage claims, including nonpayment of wages, commissions earned and unused PTO or vacation, etc.   Ms. Karila consults and represents employers and employees with regard to the California Paid Sick Leave Law which became effective 7/1/15.   She fights to recover all the money that is owed to an employee, including waiting time penalties, etc.   Ms. Karila has also represented thousands of employers with lawsuits filed against them, audits by governmental agencies, investigations of unlawful harassment or discrimination, sexual harassment training, drafting of employee manuals, employment or severance agreements and written policies.   She is retained by many employers as their on-call counsel with regard to employment law matters and has provided advice to many employers which has prevented costly lawsuits against them.  

Ms. Karila graduated from University of San Diego School of Law in 1992.   While in law school, she qualified for Law Review her first year and was elected  to the prestigious position of Editor-in-Chief of Law Review for San Diego School of Law during 1991-92.    During law school, Ms. Karila earned scholarships based on her GPA as well as awards for not only her excellent grades, but also animal rescue charity work.  

Prior to law school, Ms. Karila earned two Bachelor of Science degrees (psychology and sociology) and a Criminology Certificate from the University of Utah, where she graduated cum laude in 1987.   She was employed by a top law firm as a paralegal and also a private investigator during college.     

Ms. Karila has represented thousands of employees, independent contractors and employers with regard to their employment law matters.   Ms. Karila has earned excellent client and peer reviews as are reflected on Avvo.com, Yelp.com and other websites.   She volunteers her time to answer employment law questions from California individuals and businesses.    Kristine Karila is also a volunteer and long time advocate of animal rescue and was on the Board of Directors of Second Chance Pet Adoptions located in Huntington Beach, California for 5 years.
